Hi guys. Hi. It’s been a while! ‘I must update more often’ I cried, before not posting for two months.
Well, I’m in my third year of university now. Things have been surprisingly hectic. Everyone told me that third year is the easiest because one gets ‘used to it’ by then. Not true! There has been a significant increase in workload. Luckily I do enjoy most of what I’m studying this year. There’s also the added stress of preparing for post-uni life. Do I apply for masters programmes or do I apply for jobs? I haven’t got a clue and yet I need to start doing at least one of the two like… right now. The end of student life fast approaches (scream)!
Probably due at least in part to the stress of this year and the fact that I’ll be moving somewhere else soon, I’m thinking of ‘decluttering’. While the idea of a minimalist lifestyle doesn’t appeal to me - I love environments that are aesthetically pleasing, cosy and full of memories - I have way too much stuff. I am one of those people who is very deeply affected by her environment so I think this is a good thing to do… but how to do it?
Unsurprisingly, most of my possessions are clothes which just happen to be the hardest things to throw away! The ‘six month rule’ just does not work for me. If it’s in my closet, it’s been worn in the past six months. That’s one downside of knowing what you like - the years pass by and ya still wanna wear it all! Consequently I have a tonne of stuff. I think the route I’m going to have to take is asking myself whether a particular item of clothing is in line with how I want to dress over the next couple of years. It means that I’ll force myself to stop wearing the clothes I bought when I was a teenager. Probably a good thing!
Have any of you guys had a good ol’ clear out before? Or given yourself a total style overhaul? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
I’m spending a few days in Durham before leaving for Christmas. I forget how quiet it gets when the students leave. One of my housemates has gone home, the other leaves today and I leave tomorrow. I’m off to Cambridge until the 27th and then off to Brighton for 2 weeks. Right now I’m just hanging out trying to get things done - what else is new? I’m really excited to go back to Brighton and have a potter round London. I just love this time of year.
Outfit time! This is from one of my 'mod days' which I have occasionally. The jacket is from FrontRowShop! You can buy the exact one here. Ten points if you can recognise which famous horror film this exact pattern can be seen in.

Hope you're all well!

Love this jacket!
ReplyDeleteThank you Kate (:
DeleteMan, I did a MAJOR declutter last year. We were moving to a whole new country, and it seemed so pointless to have boxes and boxes of stuff sitting at my parents house while we were gone. So I spent the year getting rid of things...I whittled...seriously whittled, until I had only one suitcase and one box left. Then we just gave ALL of our household goods away. It was amazing. In saying that most of the things we found were cheap thrift store finds or off the side of the street, so it wasn't that hard. And it means when we go back home I can start from scratch buying plates and mugs and other exciting things haha
ReplyDeleteCertainly slowing removing things from my closet was the best way to go about it. Far less shocking! Good luck! It's a tricky task!
One suitcase and a box?! That is SERIOUSLY impressive whittling. That's the best thing about decluttering I suspect - getting more things hoho (within reason... of course...).
DeleteThat's a very good point though - doing one big clear out isn't the only way to go!
Thanks for your comment (:
Yeah, it's been fun buying new things. I'm not a particularly good shopper though, I can't choice just one or two things so end up with nothing!
DeleteWe came to korea to teach english and save a bit of money, which has been good, but perhaps not as good as we thought, and I miss home like crazy! We are moving to an island further south next year though, which is where heaps of my summer photos were taken. So we can have a tropical summer and then head back home for a tropical christmas and some much needed family time!
I love your blog, you have such a choice sense of style! ^^
I'm moving to the UK next year and I've been trying to declutter all year and I still have too much stuff! I stopped buying things this year unless they were strictly necessary and so I have less than I could have, but still. I'm the same with clothes especially, I still wear stuff from 2-3 years ago and I don't buy new clothes very often so everything piece I own seems kind of special to me. Nevertheless I'm going to have to be brutal and get rid of things that don't fit properly or I don't wear very often anymore. I think it'll be a huge relief to get rid of everything even though I'm a bit scared to do it!
ReplyDeletePS - Good luck with your studies and have a lovely Christmas break. x
Definitely a good idea. So hard to do though so I admire your discipline! That's the problem with being relatively thrifty / a smart purchaser - you keep things for ages and end up associating them with times past. At least you've got a good reason to be brutal!
DeleteYou too, merry Christmas (: x
I really love your coat! Such a beautiful print and gorgeous colours!
ReplyDeleteI should do a clear out too ... very soon (like I'm telling myself for about 2 years now) But I really suck in throwing things away. You never know when you're going to wear them again, do you?

Little green Sofie
Exactly! Don't you sometimes find yourself thinking 'that shirt would be perfect for this outfit' before remembering you threw it out a few months ago?
DeleteThanks Sofie! x

I am pretty good at getting rid of things...I sell the clothes I have barely worn and don't have a lot of memories attached to them so I can buy new stuff. And my cousin or charity are grateful for the stuff I just don't like wearing anymore because I am not fond of the silhouette or colour or whatever and to know that those things make someone else happy who can make new memories in them helps a lot.
ReplyDeleteI love your hair !! happy new year xx
ReplyDeletethis outfit is perfect! I'm so in love with your hair <3
